Jeannie Hope Gibson Art

Design

For the Jeannie Hope Gibson Art WordPress website I used the Gallery Pro child theme for the Genesis framework. The limited color scheme of white and blue was requested by the artist. The icon and logo I used for her site were of her artwork of an egret.

The Challenge

Jeannie has an extensive body of work spanning several decades. She has been featured in many gallery shows, and her works encompass numerous genres and media types. In addition to that she is a prolific writer and often creates journal writings that are considered part of the artistic piece. A simple “gallery” approach was not sufficient to highlight her work. I broke her work down into galleries by subject matter, and then also created separate pages for each art series that included journal writing. I used a portfolio custom post type to highlight each piece of art with it's associated writing.

The Home Page and Menu

The header menu is minimal and features only five links: Home, The Art Journals, The Art Galleries, About, and Contact.

On the front page I used alternating Featured Custom Post Types and Hero images to highlight Jeannie's work. The Featured Custom Post Type widgets feature her two most recent art journaling series.

Site Footer

The footer section features links to her current art gallery, menus for her art categories, a contact link, an email subscription link, and social share buttons.

The Gallery Pages

I used the Beaver Builder plugin to create the layouts for her various art galleries. No two galleries are the same yet they all have a similar look.

The Art Journaling Collections

These pages are portfolio archives of her work linked to the journaling. They look similar to the gallery pages.

The Individual Journal Pages

Each page features the artwork followed by the associated journal writing.

Contact Page

The contact page features a contact form. I used the Ninja Forms plugin to create the customized form.

Development

Plugins I used during development included Regenerate Thumbnails to resize images, Featured Custom Post Type Widget for Genesis, and Ninja Forms. The images were manually optimized in Gimp. The website is made responsive to work on mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.

Editing and code creation: HTML5, CSS3, PHP.

Search Engine Optimization

All images, content and the complete structure of the website has been optimised for best SEO practices.

Conclusion

Working on the Jeannie Hope Gibson Art website was both challenging and fun. The site is an ongoing project that will be added to and transformed along with the artist's focus and body of work.
